I'm sure that what you thought of as "old" tron has been seen as a piece of work that doesn't look into the future (as seen as plans that the "machine"that has been constructed to take over everything) so that we can look at something that has been distroyed and rebuilt into a new perspective for the same storyline. What I liked about "old tron" was that it had a sense of morals to the plot. What was looked at when looking at the machine was a tool to something that has been long in the works of men that has been looking at the corporate world as a form of battle field for the common man. What they said in the new work has a sense of heroism that has long been stored in the tron matrix that will be there for the rest of eternity.

It was probably an expedient director or art department who did it. So they could speed up the shot. Y'know - cut out the walk from the door to the phone, just have him pick it up. It's the sort of thing that breaks my suspension of disbelief. Unless of course it was a character choice. Then I'd forgive it. So much so that I may not notice it. Y'know - like if his partner had left him or Michael Douglas in Falling Down (recently made as "Everything Must Go" with Will Farrel ;)... Otherwise, it's a crap flm schooly kinda choice, I agree.

You missed the most unifying moment of Australia's modern age, man.

What I find funny is that most wars (from a Western perspective) seem to happen between people who mostly speak different languages. I'd like to see an all out war between Australia, the UK and the USA. Nukes included. Australia would probably lose, but it would be a fun fight.

I also hear Japan is now at war with a small building in Fukushima. From what I read, Japanese troops have had to back off 30 miles as the Fukushiman army expands its grip. Here's to nuclear proliferation. Who said that had anything to do with bombs?

More TJK Vs. PJK I say. Fun post. The writing was so good I didn't think that it was written. the only thing between me and your content was the syntactical "PJK" colon bit. You prolly could have not had that. Although, like James Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" (which we were forced to read by academic real-world virgins (innocents?)) you might need a dash . . . or something. Well done.

My 2c. I liked Obama shouting "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" and hearing the troops yell "Oi, oi, oi". That's a champagne anthem, surely. What more does a country need?

As a public school teacher dealing with 8th graders for the last 25 years I have found that I tend to fluctuate between being the best teacher these kids have ever had and the burnout you describe. Hopefully I tend toward the former but probably fall somewhere in the middle more often than not. My variation of the Shaw quote goes like this. "Those that can do. Those that can't teach. Those that can't teach, teach PE. Those that can't teach PE become administrators."

"I just don’t like seeing my scaly neighbours and random strangers pawing through my possessions on the front lawn" - Haha, I know exactly how you feel!

I don't like the idea of strangers hoarding my junk and using it their homes either but... I also do it to other people when there's a hard rubbish collection.
I'm still amazed at some of the gems people throw out like perfectly working TVs (not a flat screen but great for a shed), chairs and some other appliances.

Well, gee Garth. As an "ex-filmmaker" who got more than a little bored with our little cottage, nanny-state industry (where about one of the top 10 AFI Award winning films actually made its money back) I think you're probably (and sadly?) about right.

Nobody needs to see your film ("aww, boochy-boo") although, like they next stressed out, over-worked drone, I do love a stress release and Hollywood provides that. Aussie films often exacerbate our stress levels, but luckily the only audience for an Aussie film are "old people and jealous filmmakers." It seems that the more boring and pedestrian your idea, the better the chance of getting it financed here in Australia. So, I hope you have a boring screenplay at the ready Garth, because you can certainly write! :)
